Introduction
Situated on the Gomti Dwarka coast in Gujarat, the Nageshwar Jyotirlinga Temple stands as a powerful symbol of Lord Shiva’s protection and grace. Known for its magnificent 80-foot Shiva statue and peaceful surroundings, this temple attracts thousands of devotees each year. The sacred shrine, located between Dwarka and Beyt Dwarka Island, is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas and is believed to protect devotees from all forms of negativity and poison, both physical and spiritual.
Mythological Significance
According to the Shiv Purana, a devoted follower named Supriya lived in Darukavana (an ancient forest). The demon Daruka captured Supriya and other devotees, but through intense prayer, Supriya invoked Lord Shiva. Answering his call, Lord Shiva appeared as a Jyotirlinga and destroyed the demon, freeing the devotees. From then on, Lord Shiva was worshipped here as Nageshwar, the Lord of Serpents, symbolizing divine protection against evil forces.
