Introduction
Located in Deoghar, in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand, Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga (also known as Baidyanath Dham) is one of the most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. Revered as the “Lord of Healing,” this temple is believed to grant health, happiness, and liberation to its devotees. Surrounded by ancient temples and vibrant spirituality, the Vaidyanath Temple Complex features the main shrine along with 21 subsidiary temples, making it one of the most powerful spiritual centers in India.
Mythological Significance
According to ancient legend, Ravana, the king of Lanka, worshipped Lord Shiva with great devotion to gain his blessings. Pleased, Lord Shiva appeared and granted him the Jyotirlinga, with the condition that it should not be placed on the ground before reaching Lanka. On his journey, the gods intervened, and Ravana was tricked into setting it down at Deoghar, where it became permanently established.
Thus, Lord Shiva manifested as Vaidyanath, the divine healer who restores physical and spiritual well-being to his devotees.
