WHY UJJAIN?

The City That Rules Time Itself

Ujjain, historically known as Avantika, sits on the eastern bank of the holy river Shipra. It is the supreme abode of Lord Mahakaleshwar — the self-manifested (Swayambhu) form of Shiva who governs Kala (time) and death. Unlike other Jyotirlingas, the Mahakaleshwar idol here faces south — a unique Dakshinmukhi configuration believed to be exceptionally powerful.

Every 12 years, the city transforms into a spiritual ocean during the Simhastha Kumbh Mela. The resonating hymns of the legendary Bhasma Aarti, the architectural grandeur of the new Mahakal Lok Corridor, and the serene ghats create an atmosphere of unparalleled divine energy.

A 2-day trip is ideal. Day 1 can be dedicated to Mahakaleshwar, Mahakal Lok, and Harsiddhi Mata. Day 2 can be used to visit outer temples like Kal Bhairav, Mangalnath, and Sandipani Ashram.

Yes. The temple offers the Sheeghra Darshan (Fast-track) pass for ₹250 per devotee, available at Gate 4 counter or online. This pass bypasses the 2–4 hour general queue. For special Rudrabhishek puja on the Jyotirlinga, booking at ₹500–₹2,000 can be done at the temple office.
